Saturday saw the running of the Men’s Tournament. It was another beautiful day, beautifully run, and beautifully played tournament. Twelve teams meant we couldn’t try out Roger’s fancy compass tournament format, but it did provide for a solid 3 groups for double round-robin. Special thanks for volunteers Jeri Herskovits (cat herding), Jerry Beth Owens (pictures), John Dunlop (scorekeeping), Kathy Kincannon (refreshments) and the members of the top secret seeding committee. Glory goes to Grant Kalbfleisch and Grant Hayden in the top group, Mike Sowder and Tom Evans in the middling group, and Don Marshsall and Erik Askelson in the consolation group.

Grant and Scott the overall champions, but really boring outfits. Better to play good than look good I suppose.

Don and Erik, happy to be champions of the consolation group. Their medal was just as big as anyone else’s.
The final scoreboard in case you want to know who all the 2nd, 3rd, 4th place finishers were. I ain’t got time to list all of that.
Danny Hudak and Alex (last name unknown) finished third in the championship group. Surprising, considering they played in flip flops.

Seeded 7th. Finished 7th round 1. Finished 7th round 2. Winners of the coveted most boring, average dudes award. Should have just stayed in bed. Note to self - suck in your gut a bit next time.
Jerry Beth took a bunch of good action shots, but I can’t find anything snarky to say about any of them. I’ll leave you with this one. I like that Scott’s playing with his sunglasses atop his hat.
Remaining Tournaments
August 22nd, Saturday, Marshdale: Mixed Doubles Championship
Maybe it’ll be Compass format. Maybe not. We’ll see how the Men’s goes.
September 19th, Saturday, Mount Vernon Country Club: Women’s Double Championship
Maybe Compass format. Maybe mimosas. Probably less grunting than the other tournaments.
