Gala isn’t just for fun

Here’s your call to action, pickleball players of the mountain area. Buy your tickets for EPC’s annual Holiday Gala on Thursday, Dec. 4, from 5 to 9 p.m. at Mount Vernon Canyon Club. This will be our first social event at Mount Vernon, offering a chance to mingle, enjoy heavy appetizers and a cash bar. Most important, especially this year, is that the event will benefit Evergreen Christian Outreach, its food bank and other services.

$10 of your $55 ticket will benefit EChO directly, but many other facets of the event organized by EPC social director Kathy Kincannon also will allow you to donate to those in need. Attendance is limited to the first 150 who register, with a purchase deadline of Friday, Nov. 21.

Last year’s silent auction featured spirited bidding for donated works of art and other awesome items. A Christmas tree again will be hung with gift cards you can purchase to provide toys for children. Raffle ticket sales also will benefit EChO—and maybe you. If you are so inclined, bring a dessert to share and our panel of impartial experts will render judgment. The rest of us will just enjoy them.

Evergreen has a reputation as a wealthy and privileged community, but 22% of area residents receive benefits and/or services from EChO.

“Economic uncertainty, shifting foundation priorities, and emerging changes in government policy are creating powerful headwinds for nonprofits like us,” EChO Executive Director Dale Flanders said. “The government shutdown and pause on SNAP benefits will hit our clients especially hard, driving an even greater demand for our front-line services. We’re doing everything we can to tighten our belts, develop cost savings, and run as lean and efficiently as possible.”

We’d love to have your help in meeting one of our club’s missions: to give back to the community. You don’t need an Evergreen Pickleball Club membership to attend the Gala, in fact, all are welcome and encouraged to join us. But if you do want to join now, your membership will be good through the end of 2026. Thank you.
