EPC members donate art to Gala auction

The pieces are falling into place for a truly special EPC Holiday Gala at Mount Vernon Canyon Club Thursday, Dec. 4, from 5 to 9 p.m. Fabulous food is planned by the Mount Vernon kitchen, the event space will be sparkling, live and silent auctions are on tap, a Christmas tree will be hung with gift cards for toys, and prizes of various desirability will be raffled off.

Also, rumor has it that a local gourmet cook is donating a dinner for eight to be prepared in the home of the top bidder. He is not a pickleball player, but he is an expert in the kitchen.

All the Gala proceeds will go to Evergreen Christian Outreach, bolstered by Mount Vernon’s generous donation of the event space for our use. $10 of each $55 ticket will benefit EChO directly, but the silent auction, raffle tickets, toy gift cards and cash stuffed in a jar (surprisingly lucrative last year) also will be donated. Last year we raised $3,700 for EChO’s services, including a food bank, that aid the less fortunate among us in the mountain area.

EPC social director Kathy Kincannon said ticket sales will end Friday, Nov. 21. She and her helpers are working to make this our best holiday party ever. You don’t need to be an EPC member to attend. We sincerely hope to see pickleball players young and old, new and experienced, competitive and recreational at Mount Vernon Dec. 4.

These artistic pickleballers (except Gary and Jerry Beth, who know how to entertain) have donated their artwork to the Gala’s silent auction. Photographer Judy Black was unable to be present for the meal kindly hosted by Jerry Beth and Gary..

EPRD programs pickleball events

EPRD has added more winter pickleball activities at Wulf, including classes and a mixer.

The Jingle Jam tournament for Advanced/Upper Intermediate players will take place Saturday, Dec. 12, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Two-player teams may be mixed, male or female; register as a team, not individually. Cost is $50 per team, with a three-game guarantee.

An Intermediate Mixer will meet at Wulf on Tuesday evenings Jan. 20 to Feb. 24. The Mixer is for intermediate level players only, with light coaching as needed. The group is limited to 20 players, so wait times will be short.

EPRD recreation supervisor Jeff Sweet said this event is not for brand-new players, and that prior registration is required. No drop-ins allowed. Cost is $90 for in-district residents.

Reservation and drop-in pickleball play continues at Wulf. Check the gym calendar for the schedule.Nice weather has also drawn plenty of people to Marshdale most days.

Want to give Epic a try?

Epic Pickleball Club is inviting any and all Evergreen pickleball players to join them at their West Littleton location for an Evergreen Pickleball Club Social on Saturday, Nov. 22, at 4:30 p.m.

If you haven't played at Epic, now is your chance. Enjoy two hours of pickleball with free pizza and $2 beers for only $10.

You must register for the event, so If you don’t already have an Epic account, create a free one. To be perfectly honest, as someone I knew used to say, the instructions in that invitation above did not work for me. Here’s what did. Visit the West Littleton location on Epic’s website, click “Buy Membership” then click “Learn More” under EPIC Free Visitor Membership. It asks for your email address and I got no further because I already have an account.

Your results may vary with the instructions in the invitation. If any of you have IT problems signing up, Epic says to call them at 720-756-7611 so they can create a profile for you. I have found them to be very welcoming and helpful.

This is not an ad. It seems like an ad, but no one paid for it. Except me, trying to make it work. With all this competition among pickleball venues, maybe we should have ads. I’m not designing them, just to be clear.

Do you ever look at the posters on the shed?

Me either. I knew the one for the Gala was going to be there, but I was surprised to find these General Guidelines and Court Rules also there a few days ago. Do with them what you will. But do buy your Gala tickets.
