Dinkeroo registration opens (very) early tomorrow

Another EPC tournament is just two weeks away, but this competition is quite a different round robin than the one last Saturday. Smashing is out, finesse is in for the annual Dinkeroo on Friday, June 27, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Marshdale.

To register, select Dinkeroo from the EPC store after the link goes live at 12:01 a.m. Friday, June 13. Registration is limited to 48 players; the $35 fee is nonrefundable. If you do not already have the required Evergreen Pickleball Club membership, click here.

If you’re willing to help with this fun event by scorekeeping or otherwise, please contact tournament director Mick Pearce.

Dinkeroo is a fun, friendly yet competitive tournament open to EPC members of all skill levels. Groups of eight will play a dinking round robin.

Prospective participants often meet up to practice dinking in advance of this tournament, or you might be able to convince random members of a foursome to play an all-dinking game.

The Rules for Dinkeroo

1. Start and scoring is the same as a regular game. Serve from outside the kitchen line to the opposite side of the opponent’s court.

2. Every ball must bounce in the kitchen before it is hit. You can go into the kitchen to hit the ball, but you must step out with both feet before stepping back into the kitchen to hit the next shot.

3. The kitchen line is in as if it were the base line. The center line is in on serves.

4. Dinkeroo is a game of pace and patience. Almost all points are made on an unforced error as opposed to a "kill" shot. Slamming or hitting your opponent with a drive, even if they’re in the kitchen, is your opponents’ point.

5. Game to 11, win by one.

Wulf play very limited next week

EPRD recreation supervisor Jeff Sweet would like you to be aware that basketball camp is scheduled to use the Wulf gym next week so pickleball drop-in times are very limited from June 16 to 20. Check the Wulf schedule to see open times, but hope that weather permits the Marshdale schedule to be fully playable. Thanks for the heads-up, Jeff.

EPRD foundation plans July 26 tournament

Active4All Evergreen Foundation, the charitable arm of EPRD, will host a pickleball tournament Saturday, July 26, at Marshdale. Cost is $80 per team. Teams may be mixed, men or women. All will play together.

Registration is limited to 16 teams. If enough are waitlisted, more teams may be added. Play will be pooled plus bracket. Each team is guaranteed four games.

Active4All Evergreen Foundation is a 501(c)3. Proceeds from this event will support the new Senior Center at Buchanan Rec Center.
