Geezers can register now

EPC members 70 and older will presumably hobble onto the Marshdale courts for the Geezer Games Friday July 11, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration is now open and must be completed by midnight Tuesday, July 8.

The deadline will allow time for players to be placed in groups by ability, EPC tournament director Mick Pearce said. An over-80 group will be designated if enough players of that age register.

Up to 48 players can be accommodated at Marshdale.

The Marshdale pavilion will be the site of an always anticipated spread of healthy, hearty and delicious food provided by EPC social director Kathy Kincannon. Jim Mosby will set up a display of club gear for your perusal.

The tournament fee is $35. An EPC annual membership is $20.

Dinkers vie for prizes, bragging rights

These competitors know when to stay out of the kitchen. They throttled it down for our once-a-year dinkfest and proved who was the best at the soft game. Kimberly Plotkin was the winner in Group 1, with Ed Vaughn topping Group 2, Brian Pilcher finishing on top in Group 3 and Jennifer Nunn conquering Group 4.

As always, tournament director Mick Pearce pulled off a well-run and entertaining event. He had help from John Dunlop, registrar and potty cleaner, as well as scorekeepers Sally Griggs, Sarah German, Dee Miles and Pat Theno. Kathy Kincannon’s food got raves and Jim Mosby’s merchandise tent racked up some nice sales.

A huge thank-you to EPC webmaster Jim Hunsaker, who stepped in to take some great photos of the event so I could play hooky.

Group 1 winners: Kimberly Plotkin landed at the top, with Larry Flowers, left, in 2nd and Dan Goldstein, 3rd. Our intrepid tournament director, Mick Pearce, is happy to hand out the envelopes.

Group 1: From left, Binki Thalheimer, Larry Flowers, Kimberly Plotkin, John Plotkin, Kathryn Cook, Dan Goldstein, Erich Meyer, Malcolm Jeffries.

Group 2 winners: Mick with Manu Salehi, 3rd, Roger Miles and Janet Prezkurat, tie for 2nd; and Ed Vaughn, 1st. (There was an adjustment to scores after the tournament and Jerry Beth Owen actually edged Manu by one point for third place.)

Group 2: Manu Salehi, Nancy Byker, Jerry Beth Owen, Janet Prezkurat, Ed Vaughn, Noelle Jackson, Dale Jeffries, Roger Miles.

Group 3 winners: Mick presents prizes to Debra Vaughn, left, 3rd place; Brian Pilcher, 1st, and Alli Moran, 2nd. There was a lot of fashion messaging in this group.

Group 3: Debra Vaughn, Jeri Herskovits, Brian Pilcher, Bud Parr, Alli Moran, Karen Loucks Rinedollar, Margot Barker, Jerry Mogab.

Group 4 winners: Jennifer Nunn, left (except for Mick), won, Miles Ventura took 3rd and Valerie McVay was 2nd.

Group 4: Jennifer Nunn, Miles Ventura, Monte Poague, Donna Henderson, Mary Ann Bower, Kristina Boyd, Valerie McVay, Diane Stone.

Monte Poague and Mick give the courts the temporary Dinkeroo treatment.

Social director Kathy Kincannon, Jim Mosby and Erich Meyer are pretty darn happy about all this fantastic food, as well they should be. Kathy always provides an excellent spread for players and volunteers.

What can be said about this? It’s self-explanatory for those who know EPC VP John (get it?) Dunlop. Thanks for taking this priceless shot, Jerry Beth Owen, and thanks for going way beyond the call of duty, John.
