This is your chance, geezers

There are a lot of suspiciously fit people who claim to be seniors playing pickleball in Evergreen, aren’t there?

Whether you look the part or not, if you’re 70-plus this is your chance to compete among yourselves without astonishingly fast young people making it to every ball that crosses the net.

EPC veteran Larry Flowers came up with the idea for this tournament a couple years ago. As he put it, “We 70+ers rely more on finesse, placement, gamesmanship and strategy, rather than pure power, speed and testosterone.” (That last part seems unnecessarily misogynistic.)

EPC members 70 and older have until Tuesday, July 8, at midnight to register for the Geezer Games to be held FRIDAY, July 11, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Marshdale. We need at least 32 players or we’ll have to call the whole thing off and issue refunds.

The tournament fee is $35. An EPC annual membership is $20. if you have questions or want to volunteer to help, let tournament director Mick Pearce know.

The next EPC tournament on the schedule is Women’s Doubles on Saturday, Aug. 2, sponsored by Sisters & Company.

My grandson Cedar’s little brother or sister is due in early August, so if any of you are willing to be a backup photographer for the doubles tournament, please let me know.

C’mon, people

Tales have been told about less than sporting behavior at the often crowded Marshdale courts. Here’s a thought: Don’t tell other people what to do.
