Guys take to the courts tomorrow

Sixteen teams placed in two groups will play a double-elimination tournament tomorrow at Marshdale. Warmups start at 7:30 a.m. or before, and the tournament will last until about noon-1 p.m.

All eight courts are reserved for the tournament from 8 a.m. to noon, but courts will open up for spectators and non-tournament play as the field is winnowed down.

In each of the two eight-team groups, the top team in the winners’ bracket will face. the team who manages to work back up through the losers’ bracket to challenge them for the overall title.

The final match in each of the two eight-team groups will be 2-out-of-3, rally scoring or regular scoring—challengers’ choice. That makes for some pretty exciting viewing and there will be open courts available for spectators to see the action.

Kathy Kincannon will serve up her always talk-of-the-tournament food in the pavilion for the competitors and Jim Mosby will showcase EPC merch under the tent.

Tournament director Mick Pearce will oversee it all, with Jerry Beth Owen and Beth Schwecke providing meticulous scorekeeping.

Just another gorgeous day at Marshdale.

Christian Ervick BALANCE Memorial Fundraiser

Spectators are also welcome at the fourth annual BALANCE Fundraiser tomorrow at Mount Vernon Canyon Club, held in memory of Evergreen Pickleball Club board member Travis Ervick’s brother. “The BALANCE Scholarship supports students of the Theta Xi Fraternity at CU Boulder who exemplify the well-rounded, compassionate and driven life that Christian lived,” Travis said.

One hundred percent of all ticket sales, donations, sponsorship money and silent auction proceeds are tax-deductible and go directly to the scholarship fund. The BALANCE fundraiser lasts from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a scholarship award ceremony at noon. It is to be held rain or shine.

Next up for EPC: Mixed Doubles

Our club’s next and final tournament of the 2025 season will be Mixed Doubles on Saturday, Sept. 13. Registration will open Saturday, Aug. 30, at 12:01 a.m. As usual, Gig Blitz Homes will sponsor the event, so if you want to buy or sell, talk to Gig because she is the best. And not just at pickleball.

Mixed Doubles teams can consist of a man and a woman, or a woman and a man. Mick will not be checking IDs, let alone anything else.

Cost is $35 per person and you must be an EPC member—for insurance purposes. (I didn’t know that was why until today! I just thought it was the right thing to do.)

Check the 2025 Club Calendar at the easy-to-remember evergreenpickleball.club web address for the link to Mixed Doubles registration, after it goes live on Saturday.
