It’s EPC tournament time! No, really, it is.
That means it’s also time to renew or start your Evergreen Pickleball Club membership. As always, Jim Hunsaker is on top of it: You can click on EPC Store at evergreenpickleball.club to buy your $20 annual membership. Those that recently joined, either near the end of 2025 or since 2026 began, can find their names listed at Current EPC Membership.
That way you won’t pay twice. Unless you want to. No judgment.
And yes, our first tournament of the year is coming right up. Our new tournament director, Roger Miles, has arranged for Club 45 in Evergreen (“the Bubble”) to sponsor and host a tournament with EPC on Friday, Feb. 20, from 8 a.m. to noon. Cost is $20 per player with a limit of 32 players. Register here. You must be an EPC member, but do not have to be a member of Club 45.
This is an open tournament, with men and women competing individually. It will be in round-robin format, with two flights of 16 seeded players each. Each flight will be broken into groups of four players. Winners of each four-person group then will play each other for the championship. Second-place players will compete for second-place prizes, etc. Four winners in each flight.
Roger has asked Kathy Fasold, founder and longtime organizer of the Evergreen Ladder competition, to seed the tournament players. Trust me, she and her team know how you play.
Club 45 will provide four indoor courts, balls, scorekeepers and small prizes for eight winners. Brown-bag snacks between flights will be provided by EPC social director Kathy Kincannon, so you know it will be the most delicious sack snack you’ve ever had.
Roger said he doesn’t plan to add to the total number of tournaments EPC sponsors (six last year), but does plan to spread them out more through the year. So don’t miss this one.
Happy New Year from EPC First Lady Debbie Kerr and her sidekick, EPC President Bob Kerr. He had a hard time holding a smile for the five seconds it took for the photographer to get her act together. They were enjoying a sunny, pleasant January day at Marshdale. Such days seem pretty common now, and a lot of players are taking advantage of them.
