Now is the time

Our holiday fundraiser for EChO on Thursday, Dec. 4, from 5 to 9 truly is going to be a wonderful evening. The beautiful setting of Mount Vernon Canyon Club and an exceptional spread of appetizers will be the backdrop for a slew of pickleball friends gathering to raise money for an organization that does a tremendous amount to help the less fortunate in our community.

Social director Kathy Kincannon and her team are putting together a robust list of activities to make the evening special for all of us. A silent auction will include truly outstanding artwork donated by some of our talented members, as well as contributions from local merchants and other pickleballers. If you’re not successful with your bids, don’t worry, other prizes also will be raffled off (tickets at the door $1 apiece).

Jim Hunsaker, who wrangles our website, has a son who has very kindly donated some expensive bottles of wine that you can claim in a ring-tossing contest. These bottles of great wine will be arrayed at a distance, with those purchasing tickets getting to toss until they “ring” one. Be assured that each bottle is worth far more than the contest entry fee.

Dessert will be crowd-sourced by tapping into another talented segment of the pickleball community (there are so many). All you fantastic bakers and sweets makers are invited to bring a dozen or two individual servings of your specialty—or maybe just something you’ve always wanted to try making. We’re game.

Two judges will taste each dessert and the winner will be rewarded with a 75-minute massage from pickleball player Dawn Satchell, on the spot (I think). That’s worth whipping up something extra special, for sure. And who knows who the judges might be? There is a rumor that a Great British Bake Off contestant lurks among our membership. I haven’t heard the rumor, but I bet there is one.

Tickets should be purchased by tomorrow, Friday, Nov. 21, but don’t give up if you miss that somewhat flexible deadline. $10 of your $55 ticket will benefit Evergreen Christian Outreach. Kathy reminds us to please bring a credit card, check or cash for donations. You do not need to be a member of Evergreen Pickleball Club to attend.
